Design Thoughts: UCET's 2018 conference is all about focusing on the teacher. Because of this focus, I wanted my poster centered around a teacher and the word YOU.
I started with the image. I used the masking and gradient tools to blur the edges of the image, making the teacher the focus of the image. I used the rule of thirds to align the photo.
I then added the word 'you' and used a drop shadow with the rule of thirds in order to make it pop. The rest of the information was added around the word 'You' and the image of the teacher. I used drop shadows and strokes on the type to make it pop in different ways.
I used contrast and repetition to pull all the elements together.
Contrast: White background with red and black text. The different fonts also contrast each other.
Repetition: I chose to repeat the red and yellow from the logo in the information. I also repeated a serif font throughout the design.
Alignment: The image and the white space are aligned according to the rule of thirds.
Proximity: The pertinent information is placed close to the focus word 'You'. The date and location are also close in proximity.
